SUMMARY:Help needed at Camp Nawakwa September 5 and a good lunch is provided
DESCRIPTION:Hello Nawakwans and Applicants\, \n\n\n\n\nWe are getting camp ready for the upcoming October 3rd Centennial Celebration and are in need of a good team to help prepare the camp. Please join us if you can spare a few hours Saturday September 5th from 10:00am-2:00pm. Lewis Ports has offered lunch and beverages to sweeten the deal. \nAs we did with the emergency effort this past April – where a good number of Nawakwans and Applicants were able to assist\, thank you\, in making repairs for our insurance coverage – we have some tasks that require a group effort & things are always easier when handled by a team. \nNote not all are heavyweight lifts\, especially if you enjoy hammering and/or throwing wood chips around: \n\nmove wood chips and spread across paths\nmove gravel to clear space for additional parking\ntighten up/replace railings around camp\n\nAnd if there’s enough hands we can finish it all off: \n\nclean up the swim crib\nreplace several decayed dock boards\n\nIf we don’t accomplish everything we plan to have a second effort on Saturday September 26. \nPlease respond to Lewis and Marty if you can spare a couple of hours. We have three people signed up to help already (and I’ll be there) and we’ll get more done if you can join us. Please try to sign up. \nAs always\, thank you for helping to keep Camp Nawakwa alive and well\, \nMarty McDonald\nNawakwa Vice-Chair\n646-232-7203 \nEmail

SUMMARY:Hike - Diamond Mountain Circular
DESCRIPTION:Departing from camp at 9 a.m.\, we will make our way along the camp road toward 7 Lakes Drive\, which we will cross to access the Tuxedo Mount Ivy Trail. \nWe will only stay for a short distance on the TMI before we turn right onto the Stony Brook Trail and then left onto the orange Hilburn Torne Sebago Trail. \nAs soon as the ascent starts\, we will get a good workout. After 0.6 miles the trail merges with the Seven Hills Trail\, and we will be rewarded with a gorgeous view of our very own base: Lake Sebago. \nAfter another 0.2 miles we’ve reached the summit of Diamond Mountain (1240 ft). \nAt this point we will follow the blue-blazed Seven Hills Trail for about 0.7 miles\, with several great vistas along the way before descending and making a right onto the Kakiat Trail. This is a rather steep descent that requires rock scrambling skills. \n  \nAfter 0.6 miles on the Kakiat Trail\, we will make a right onto the Stony Brook Trail. After a relatively flat 1.4 miles we’ll be back at 7 Lakes Drive and will return to camp. \n  \nThis hike includes a steep ascent and descent and some rock scrambling. The pace will be a little faster than on some of the other Nawakwa hikes. \n  \nDistance: Approx. 5.6 miles (qualifying) \nApprox. total ascent 779 ft. \n  \nParticipants should wear sturdy footwear and bring sunscreen\, lunch\, snacks\, raingear\, and enough water – Hydration Basics: How to Stay Hydrated | REI Expert Advice \nHiking poles are recommended but not required. \nIf you are driving from New York City and can offer a ride to other hikers\, please let the hike leader know. \nPlease rsvp by 10/1 to oliver@noany.org \nPlease also reach out with any questions you have in the meantime.
