DESCRIPTION:Trail Work Day :  Saturday\, June 7th \nJune 7\, 2025 @ 10:15 am – 3:30 pm \n Join us on National Trails Day as we help maintain our Harriman hiking trails.  We’ll hike to our work location from camp\, work for around two to three hours\, not counting our lunch break\, and then hike back. https://americanhiking.org/miscellaneous/american-hiking-33rd-annual-national-trails-day/ \n Meeting place:  Camp Nawakwa.  Pick-up at nearby train station or bus stop possible. \n When: 10:15 a.m. \n What to bring:  Work clothes\, long pants and shirt sleeves\, jacket/warm layers for changing weather circumstances\, sturdy hiking shoes/boots\, gloves\, hat\, plenty of water and a packed lunch. DESCRIPTION:The beautiful surroundings of Nawakwa often inspire creativity within us. Join Alex Wilkie for his annual Paint and Sip Party on June 7.  The painting party will run from 2 – 4:30 p.m.\, Saturday afternoon\, rain or shine. First-time painters as well as experienced artists are invited.  All painting materials will be provided\, but you’ll have to bring your inspirational beverage of choice. The cost for the paint party is $25 per person. SUMMARY:Orienteering: What To Do When You’re Lost And Your GPS Device Fails You
DESCRIPTION:Learn to read maps\, use a compass to orient yourself in the wilds\, and how to utilize dead reckoning when necessary.  Meet at the lodge at Nawakwa.  We will spend time understanding orienteering basics indoors\, and then practice outdoors.  Limit: 10 participants.  Cost: free with your camp fee.\n\nInstructor: Don Elmendorf\, Licenced Environmental Engineer\, Coast Guard Auxiliary & Forestry graduate.\n\nRequirement: Bring your own orienteering compass with a clear plastic base-plate (cost $10 +) and a packed lunch. We’ll focus on removing the invasive plants along our joint access road as well as the two large clumps of barberry (that I know of) in the upper portion of camp.\n\nPlease wear long sleeves\, pants\, and bug spray\, and consider wearing eye protection. We’ll gather work gloves\, clippers\, and a couple of hoes or shovels from the main cabin before setting out for our meeting point (the junction outside the Nawakwa gate).\n\nMany hands make light work!
