DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 9\, join Andy Frank and the conservation committee for a tree ID hike\, beginning and ending at Kakiat County Park (on the other side of Harriman). We are hoping the mountain laurel will be in bloom! Feel free to bring your own tree identification materials if you’d like. \n  \nThis 2.5-mile hike will involve some sustained climbing to get from the river up to the Harriman plateau\, for a total ascent of about 700 feet and the same descent. This will be a short but moderately difficult hike. Start time will be 9:45 AM\, ending around 2:30 or 3:00.  \n  \nHiking boots and two quarts of water required. DESCRIPTION:We had a great time at our Painting Party last May\, so we’re doing it again! \n\nJoin co-hosts Amanda Panzer and Alex Wilkie for a Paint and Sip Party and Hosted Weekend on May 18/19. \nThe paint party will run Saturday afternoon\, but all weekend meals will be available. First we’ll look at some basic principles that guide trail maintainers’ work. Then we will hike to a nearby trail that needs our attention to get some hands-on experience\, we’ll take a lunch break\, then work a little more. \nRequired for the workday: real boots\, long pants\, long sleeved shirt\, hat\, jacket\, layers for warmth/weather. We have many camp tools used for trail maintenance and firewood that need sharpening and we will have a power sharpener on hand. Members can volunteer to sharpen a tool and learn the process or just opt to watch the process if interested. DESCRIPTION:TRAIL MAINTENANCE WORKDAY;  YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO ‘GIVE BACK’ IN APPRECIATION FOR THE TRAILS THAT HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO US\n\nMeet: 9:30 at Camp Nawakwa.  Approximately 4 mile hike on moderate terrain plus 2 hours of trail maintenance work. Learn about what a trail maintainer does and try your hand at basic trail work.  We will be cutting vegetation with hand tools (these will be provided\, but bring your own if you have decent hedge shears).  We will hike to the location\, work 1 hr\, take a lunch break\, work another hour\, then return to camp.  Requirements; bring plenty of liquid for hydration\, a packed lunch and snacks\, eye protection; prescription/ or safety glasses\, work gloves (camp can provide basic ones)\, sturdy hiking boots/shoes\, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt\, and sun and insect protection.\n\nCo-Leaders; Mary James and Ingrid Stauch\nNon-Qualifying. Serious rain will cancel.  Contact: Mary James maryelizjames@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Please join us this day to help keep camp well maintained! We are an all-volunteer organization\, and the preservation and maintenance of Camp Nawakwa depends on all our members.\nThe outside part of this day will focus on camp paths and campsites with the intent to trim\, mow\, and rake as thoroughly as possible. This effort can help reduce tick transmission and makes camp a safer for everyone. Power tools and gas operated machinery will be in use! \nThe indoor side of this workday will focus on cleaning cabins and the main lodge as needed.\nA camp lunch of sandwiches and fresh fruit will be provided for all workers. SUMMARY:Special Project: Installation of Boat Dock and New Kayak Launch Saturday
DESCRIPTION:A special project\, starting from 11 am to 2pm\, to repair the boat dock’s flotation and to install a new kayak launch will take place on Saturday\, May 6th Volunteer for a few hours to help us re- install our boat dock\, fix the floats and install our new kayak launch attachment. The dock is heavy and will need 6-8 people to flip it so the floats can be installed and then moved into position in the water. This project should only take an hour or two. DESCRIPTION:Welcome back! This is our traditional Spring Work Weekend to get Camp Nawakwa ready for the new camp season. The opening of camp is always an exciting time for us. The Spring Work Weekend is the opportunity to make the campgrounds\, the Waterfront\, the Main Cabin\, and all the sleeping cabins ready for enjoyable use by Keyholders and their guests. Camp Fees are waived for all who take part in the work-day on Saturday\, plus there will be lunch for all workers that day. \n(Those who might be staying overnight still need to register with the overnight host and pay the day fee of Sunday\, and whatever extra food costs there might be. See the Hosting Schedule on page 3 for information on registering for the overnight).
