SUMMARY:Govenor’s Island Walk
DESCRIPTION:Outing: Daylight Savings Time on Governors Island \n\n\n\nMarch 14\, 2026 9:45am to 1:00pm \n\n\nMeet @ 9:45 on 3/14 inside the Governor’s Island Ferry Terminal at 10 South StSlip 7\, New York\, NY 10004. It’s near the heliport\, just a minute north of the South Ferry. 1\, 2\, 3\, 4\, 5\, N\, R and W trains are nearby. We’ll aim for the 10:00 am ferry which is free (as of this writing). \nWe’ll take a short ferry ride to a 172 acre island located a few hundred yards off lower Manhattan to walk Governors Island. The walk will take us through natural areas\, along former Coast Guard housing\, and up a very small (70’) hill to great views of the Lower Harbor. Good chances for bird spotting and public arts too. Maybe even a cruise ship sighting at the Brooklyn Terminal across Buttermilk Channel. \nAbout 4 miles\, wear walking shoes and warm layers. Extreme cold and or heavy rain cancels. Bring snacks as there might be just a few vendors open at this time of the season. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister with Marty McDonald info@noany.org or text 646-232-7203 by Friday 3/13/26.

SUMMARY:Bastille Day Hosted Weekend (Lewis Ports & Susanne Flower)
DESCRIPTION:At this year’s Bastille Day we will play Pétanque around 3 p.m. (a French version of Bocce) followed by a picnic-themed dinner around 6 p.m. and then two back to back French film screenings (with English subtitles!) after dinner starting at 8 p.m.. \nPétanque can be played by all in two teams on our horseshoe court (it doesn’t require a manicured playing court). It’s usually fueled by Pastis\, a great prelude to dinner\, and a lot of fun. No experience needed! \nThe BYOB meal will consist of numerous small cold French picnic dishes in your own “picnic basket.” Eat your meal at the waterfront\, porch\, main cabin\, etc. We’ll all gather together afterwards at the main cabin for a “digestif”\, intros and dessert. \nSunday morning we’ll offer a hearty breakfast which will include a Corsican omelette. \nTo register for the weekend please contact Jerry Flower (jerry.flower@verizon.net) by Wed. July 8th at 8 pm and specify which meal/s you’ll attend and any food allergies or dietary requirements.  Dinner is capped at 30 participants so please register early. \nOur first Nawakwa Film Night! \nThe Activities Committee is providing the Camp projector for us to show two back to back French films\, “Jean de Florette” and\, “Manon of the Spring”.  They are stand-alone films but together complete the story of a family in 1920’s Southern France. Full of charm\, depth and ambiance\, they are the works of the famous author Marcel Pagnol with well-known French actors. This will be a full evening guaranteed to supply lots of emotions along with espressos and snacks!
