Here are a few photos I took from Ray’s 7/25 talk about Raymond Torre – for the newsletter. Photo of Lilian reading amidst the blueberries taken earlier in the day also included.

And for everyone’s interest, here’s a link to the video of Ray’s talk (4:19).

Nawakwa Silent Auction

Our first-ever on-line auction, to be held as a fund raiser for Camp Nawakwa, is up and running. The opportunity for bidding will close on September 30th. Winning bids will be available for pick-up at camp on October 3rd. Please see the details for accessing the auction below.

The center piece of the auction is a framed 1941 lithograph of the Main Cabin made in 1941 by member and artist Frank Callcott. Also in the auction are a number of very fine original artworks made and donated by keyholder members for this special fund-raising event. Other members who might wish to donate an item for the auction should contact Ray Kozma at raymondkozma@gmail.com

—> Help needed at Camp Nawakwa September 5 and a good lunch is provided

August 13, 2026

Hello Nawakwans and Applicants,

We are getting camp ready for the upcoming October 3rd Centennial Celebration and are in need of a good team to help prepare the camp. Please join us if you can spare a few hours Saturday September 5th from 10:00am-2:00pm. Lewis Ports has offered lunch and beverages to sweeten the deal.

As we did with the emergency effort this past April – where a good number of Nawakwans and Applicants were able to assist, thank you, in making repairs for our insurance coverage – we have some tasks that require a group effort & things are always easier when handled by a team.

Note not all are heavyweight lifts, especially if you enjoy hammering and/or throwing wood chips around:

  • move wood chips and spread across paths
  • move gravel to clear space for additional parking
  • tighten up/replace railings around camp

And if there’s enough hands we can finish it all off:

  • clean up the swim crib
  • replace several decayed dock boards

If we don’t accomplish everything we plan to have a second effort on Saturday September 26.

Please respond to Lewis and Marty if you can spare a couple of hours. We have three people signed up to help already (and I’ll be there) and we’ll get more done if you can join us. Please try to sign up.

As always, thank you for helping to keep Camp Nawakwa alive and well,

Marty McDonald

PS You’re invited to join Doris and Rosanna that evening for an Italian dinner where they will be cooking some of their family’s favorite recipes. Check the calendar for details.
