Camp Nawakwa Alert: No electricity due to Tropical Storm Isaias

August 5, 2020 5 Comments

Rockland County, the county of Camp Nawakwa, got hit pretty hard by tropical storm Isaias.

Camp Nawakwa had many downed branches and trees along the roadway. These have all been cleared by the Park sufficiently to access camp. A sapling came down across the road by the shed. This was cleared by Bill and Carol Burns, who also surveyed the property for additional damage. They found none, except one large tree by the waterfront. Luckily, it fell along the lakefront and north. Don will let the Park know, and see if he can get a timeframe for removal. It’s location does not impede use of the

However, a limb came down in the woods, about mid-way down our drive, onto the power lines. Camp Nawakwa has no electricity. Don marked the location with white plastic bags tied to a tree on the drive. Don will coordinate with the Park and find out the status of the electric repair.

Anyone storing food in either refrigerator should make efforts to remove it ASAP. The wait for power could be 7 – 10 days, so please look for updates on adkny.org. We are on city water, so that is not an issue.

Any update? Tried calling camp but phone is out. Not sure if it’s due to no power or just a phone issue. No rush on an answer, just curious. Thanks.

According to Power company Outage map outage map.oru.com they restored power to Nawakwa & Baker camps Thursday Aug 13; and to Sebago canoe club Friday Aug 14. Nawakwa basement circuit breaker needs to be on for restored electric to work. Anyone check?
