Learn to read maps, use a compass to orient yourself in the wilds, and how to utilize dead reckoning when necessary. Meet at the lodge at Nawakwa. We will spend time understanding orienteering basics indoors, and then practice outdoors. Limit: 10 participants. Cost: free with your camp fee.
Instructor: Don Elmendorf, Licenced Environmental Engineer, Coast Guard Auxiliary & Forestry graduate.
Requirement: Bring your own orienteering compass with a clear plastic base-plate (cost $10
+) and a packed lunch. Coffee will be available. Wear sturdy footwear and clothing for off trail walking. A treatment of tick repellent such as Permethrin is recommended on your clothing prior to the day.
