Saturday June 17, Reeves Brook/Raccoon Brook Hills/Pine Meadow Loop
Length: 5.4 mile(Qualifying hike), Difficulty: Moderate to Strenuous
The beginning of the Reeves Brook Trail runs uphill into the woods. It then parallels the Reeves Brook trail along the brook with attractive cascades of the brook when the water level is high. There are several steep but short climbs up & down the trail before connecting to the Raccoon Brook Hills Trail. We will cross a stream and pass The Pulpit, and have two southwest-facing views of the Torne Valley. The trail continues to climb around 800 feet to the highest point of the hike, about 1,230 feet above sea level. On a clear day, you can see the NYC skyline in the distance. We will descend through dense stands of mountain laurel connecting to the Kakiat Trail and circuit back to the Visitor Center on the Pine Meadow Trails.
