Sunday, July 29, 2023 – Raymond Torrey Memorial Hike (5-6 miles – Qualifying)

Raymond H. Torrey was the first Chair of the New York Chapter and a leading figure in setting up the trail system we enjoy in Harriman. He was a co-author of the New York Walk Book, first published in 1923. He was a newspaper journalist (the New York Post) and through his column, called The Long Brown Path, did much to promote and educate others about the wonders of the trails as they were being developed in Harriman State Park and beyond. This hike will visit and pay tribute to Raymond Torrey at the memorial placed on Long Mountain after his sudden death in 1938. This hike takes place on Sunday morning and details will be in the next Trail Marker and on our website. Leader will be Ray Kozma.
