Harriman State Park & Bear Mountain State Park: Closed

⛔️BEAR MOUNTAIN + HARRIMAN STATE PARKS CLOSED⛔️

Bear Mountain State Park and Harriman State Park will be closed Monday, July 10th and until further notice due to severe flooding on Sunday 7/9.

We will post an update once the park re-opens, but please check the New York State Parks website for the most up to date information about closures and restrictions.

Herbicide Treatment of Lake Sebago 7/13

This is the third of a maximum of 6 treatments for 2023.
A 24-hour swimming restriction for the Northern Basin Only will be in place from the morning of Thursday July 13th to the morning of Friday July 14th, 2023. The swimming restriction will be lifted by 11:00am on Friday July 14th, 2023.
  • There is no swimming restriction in the southern basin.

Camp is located in the Southern Basin and is not directly affected by this treatment.

Canoe Sailing this Saturday!

Interested in learning to sail and possibly race a canoe sailing boat? Sheepshead Canoe Club at our neighbor ACA Camp is hosting their first 2023 ‘Free Sail’ instructional day next Saturday 7/15, from 10-4. A second ‘Free Sail’ is planned for Sunday 7/30, also 10-4 (rescheduled from 6/24). 
 
Learn the ropes with experienced sailors, using a paddle instead of a rudder to steer. For any questions, please contact Susan Shockett at sshockett@yahoo.com or 917 855 1530.

Knife & Tool Sharpening Workshop (Saturday 7/8)

  • On Saturday July 8th NOANY members Carl and Dave will be holding a sharpening workshop. We have many camp tools used for trail maintenance and firewood that need sharpening, and we will have a power sharpener on hand. Members can volunteer to sharpen a tool and learn the process or just opt to watch the process if interested. Bring a knife or small tool you’d like sharpened and practice your new skills at the end of the workshop.

Conservation Activity: Invasive Species Removal (This Saturday. Register by Thursday 7/6)

Conservation Activity: Invasive Species Removal

  • We’ll do invasive species removal on Saturday, July 8 from 9:30-12:30PM. Our leader will be Rich Rockwell from NYNJ Trails Conference. We’ll meet at the Nawakwa gate, as some folks from ACA will be joining us.
  • No tools needed, but volunteers should bring sturdy gloves, use appropriate sun protection, and wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and long-sleeved shirts to protect them from poison ivy, ticks, etc.
