Hiker Safety Recommendations

  1. Check out the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s “How to Share the Woods During Hunting Season”.  Safety Video
  2. Stay on designated trails!
  3. Wear bright colors. Fluorescent orange and fluorescent pink are recommended, but any bright colors will work. This not only helps hikers to be seen by hunters but also helps in case of unforeseen emergencies like getting lost or injured.
  4. Keep pets always leashed and attach a brightly colored vest or bandana to your dogs.
  5. Be aware of hunting season dates and areas and plan accordingly. Hunting area notifications will be posted at park tailheads and other key access points.
  6. Hunters using firearms are required to wear fluorescent orange or pink!
