Camp Road closed 7/1 Week – Road work on Ruby Joliffe Way

June 24, 2024

Updated: Road to be closed week of July 1

Dave Hayes just received this important update from PIPC regarding work on our access road to Camp Nawakwa

A tree contractor will be continuing work on the road from Seven Lakes Drive to SB-2 (ACA Camp)  and  to our gate at SB-3 (Nawakwa). The road  will be blocked by machinery on Monday through Friday during the hours of 6:00 am-4:00 pm. No vehicles, or pedestrians  will be permitted to utilize the access road during this time. The road will be accessible, and Camp can be accessed after 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, after the construction crew work has ended for the day.

The road and camp is open on the weekends.

Members may continue to hike in to camp, or boat in to camp from the public boat launch during the weekday hours.

We will keep you advised of any new developments. We apologize for the inconvenience,

David Hayes

June 7: Camp Nawakwa has reopened!

June 7, 2024

From our Camp Chair, David-

Good Afternoon,

I am very happy to report (although a bit late but out of my control), I just received the following message from Parks

“After some thought I will allow SB-3 (Camp Nawakwa) to re-enter camp.  Our staff has made the road passable and safe.  Please remember no person shall in any way go past the cable gate leading to SB-2 ACA.  I understand some SB-3 members are also SB-2 members and they might feel necessary to go check on their cabins.  Please understand there will be no tolerance for anyone trying to walk, drive or enter SB2.

I hope you enjoy camp and be safe.”

I will not be able to get to Camp until Sunday this weekend as I have a work event tomorrow. But I will be around all day Sunday trying to catch up on things and make sure everything is good to go.

If anyone has any questions, please reach out!

-David

Camp Remains Closed Through the Weekend of June 1st

May 30, 2024

Dave spoke to PIPC(the park) on Wednesday and unfortunately, Camp has to continue to remain closed through this approaching weekend(June 1st). The power has not yet been reconnected, and there are still cleanups in progress from the fallen trees.
We still don’t have a final timeline for them to be done, but with any luck and lots of hard work by the Park’s staff we may be ready by the June 8th weekend. It was reiterated they are working as fast as possible and that it is currently not safe for anyone to be at camp because emergency access is still limited and work is underway.
We’ll continue to update everyone as soon as we have new information.
A big thanks to everyone at PIPC for making this a priority.
