Nawakwa Weekly Update: April 22 -23

April 22-23, 2023: Spring Work Weekend/Opening of Camp 

All hands-on deck! The opening of the new camp season is always an exciting time for Nawakwans. It is an opportunity to make the campgrounds, waterfront, main cabin and sleeping cabins ready for the season. Please join hosts Nancy Dargis, Mary Hilley, Eve Mancuso and Camp chair David Hayes, for the work weekend to  get our camp in good order for 2023.

Work Day

  • Camp Fees are waived  for all who take part in the work day on Saturday only
  • A complimentary lunch will be served for all workers on Saturday
  • Work day is a qualifying event for Applicants.

 

Weekend

  • Theme. The first of the 100-year Anniversary Festivities will be  incorporated into this weekend. A few dishes from “old time” popular recipes (which omnivores and  vegetarians will be sure to enjoy) will be added to the menu to reflect our history.
  • Weekend Menu. Saturday’s work day lunch will include soup, salad and sandwich; dinner will include a delicious  chicken dish with a healthy grain and lots of seasonal vegetable side dishes; breakfast will include  oatmeal, yogurt, fruits, eggs and toast, trail lunch “to go” will be provided for Sunday. Note: Sunday camp fees along with Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast / lunch costs are not waived. 
  • Registration. Please reply to both Dave and Eve
  • Please confirm your Saturday work day participation with Dave Hayes by sending your RSVP to Dave at camp@noany.org.
  • Please RSVP to Eve at EveMancuso@gmail.com no later than Thursday night, 4/20 at 9 PM to confirm  your participation, cell 914-924-3832. Please note which days you will be joining us, which meals you  will partake in, and your dietary preference. We look forward to seeing you

!! Hosts needed — 10 weekends through July; and most weekdays through July!!

We have plenty of hosted dinners to chose among, hikes, qualifying work events, plus a special event to install our new kayak and canoe launch.

Founded in 1923, the Nawakwa Outdoor Association of New York, Inc. is a membership organization dedicated to the enjoyment of the outdoors through hiking, walking, camping, swimming, skiing, sailing, canoeing, and kayaking, and to the conservation and preservation of our wilderness, particularly the mountains, lakes, trails, and camping areas of the metropolitan New York region.
