September 26: Camp Nawakwa Applicant Opportunity

September 14, 2020 Leave a Comment

9/22 – we are full. Waitlist only.

Good Afternoon, All Applicants and Keyholders!

The American Canoe Association, the camp opposite our front gate, has reached out to Nawakwan keyholders and applicants to participate in an invasive project they are conducting with the NYNJ Trail Conference. The total number of participants is only 10, we already have 4 keyholders and 3 applicants. The two invasives are barberry and aralia. When I talked with the ACA concerning our applicant issues, they generously gave Nawakwa an entire day, 9/26/20, to ourselves with the NYNJTC. There may be space with the ACA on 10/3, as well.
We will have 5 keyholders and 5 applicants participate in this qualifying service project. Priority will be given to applicants who do not have the Service Project requirement completed. One caveat is the duration of the work day. Our qualifying service projects are usually 4 to 6-hours. At this time, we don’t know how long the NYNJTC intends to be at camp. Since Don, our Camp Chair, works closely with the TC on invasives, he may be approved to continue running the service project when they leave. If they do not approve, we will continue the day of service with projects in camp. Participants will need long pants, water, and work gloves (we have a bucket of work gloves in camp). Although we do have pairs of loppers, apparently the TC will supply all tools.
PLEASE DO NOT submit a form for camp access on 9/26 if you already have the service requirement fulfilled.
If you are interested in this opportunity and are eligible to participate, go to the Nawakwan tab on adkny.org and submit a camp access form for 9/26. I will respond to your request to be in camp, via the camp access form, with a link to the registration the TC requires for your participation.

There is another opportunity for applicants to complete either the service or overnight requirement in mid-October, at our camp closing weekend. We are looking to finalize the date this week. So, please access adkny.org frequently for more information.

We look forward to seeing you 9/26 and/or in October – Teri and Don
